Is a podcast a repackaged radio broadcast?

According to the Oxford English dictionary a podcast is 'digital recording of a radio broadcast made available on the internet for downloading to a personal audio player'.

Almost a year after podcast was entered into the American English dictionary the word is recognised by the Oxford English equivalent.

Such a (sickening) shame that the definition is wrong.

It's not just the 'radio brodcast' bit that annoys me.

I've seen a lot of sites just re-branding their mp3 files 'our Podcasts'. What's the point of that??
I want to point out to them that they're not really podcasts without them being available by automatic download but how can you with such poor definitions.

Can we start a petition :)

How absurd.

On closer inspection, the BBC News Story is almost a year old, so it would be worth checking the definition that actually went in the dictionary. Perhaps they saw the error of their ways before publishing!
